The first instant coffee was invented in 1901 by a chemist Satori Kato name but the first to mass produce instant coffee is George Washington.

1771: “Instant coffee” was first performed in England under the name of “coffee compounds” and was patented by the British government.

1853: The first instant coffee of America was created. During the civil war, instant coffee “cake” is sent to soldiers for testing.

1901: Dr. Satori Kato – a Japanese chemist in Chicago, Illinois – successfully developed the first method of creating a coffee powder can be dissolved in a stable manner – also known as Coffee instant coffee – just add hot water and use. Initially, Kato develop faster techniques to make tea, and then apply it to coffee. In 1903 he was granted a patent for this method.

1909: Coffee was mass produced by George Constant Louis Washington (1871-1946, an American who emigrated from Belgium). And then, he was granted patents. But many feed backed that the taste is unsatisfactory. Washington named it “Red E Coffee” and began marketing its products in 1909.

1914-1918: Instant coffee became widely popular, especially with the US military. During World War I, the soldiers called it the “Cup of George” and the demobilization they still want to continue using the product.

1930: Brazilian Coffee Institute requested the Chairman of Nestlé created a soluble coffee product, to help Brazil cope with the coffee residue, and also to increase coffee sales to this country. Nestlé began several years of intense research to solve the problem.

1937: Scientist Max Morgenthaler Nestlé developed a technique that makes the new instant coffee in laboratory research centers of the Swiss Nestle. The new product was named Nescafé. This name comes from the combination of Nestlé and café.

1938: Start selling Nescafe Nestle in Switzerland and also in 1938 they started building the plant in London. The US military became their major customers.

1939-1945: During World War II, instant coffee is very popular with soldiers. Nescafe and other instant coffee brand have provided a huge amount due to high deman in the market.

1943: George Washington Company was sold to American Home Products, before Washington died shortly. George Washington coffee brand continued to exist until 1961.

1960: A new discovery better for instant coffee, using a process of accumulation, involves steaming coffee beans so that they stick together in blocks. Unfortunately, two cycles of heating and drying caused coffee to lose its taste. When this method is improved, freeze-drying method became a popular method of making instant coffee.
